The Story Behind Our Family

   Every family has a story, and ours is no different. The story and life of Lotus Buds Childrens Home began in 1987, when Therese Treleven (Koelmeyer) arrived in Sri Lanka. The needs of extremely destitute and orphaned children came to her attention, and she decided to do something about it. Inspired by the story of Amy Carmichael of India, Therese decided to establish a home for these needy children.

   Beginning with one child in 1989, and eventually growing to include twenty-one, Lotus Buds Children's Home has been the only home many of these children have ever known. Lotus Buds has provided a stable and loving environment in which to grow.

   In 1994 Russell Nivasa was built to accomodate the growing family. This large home on five acres, in the countryside outside of Colombo is the perfect place to raise children. However, once again Lotus Buds is in need of more room. In order to accomodate more children, it is the desire of the Director and Board to add a wing for new babies and a boys dormitory.

   The story of Lotus Buds is in no way complete. We are looking towards the future.
